Concrete Questions and Answers
What step do we take to ensure a quality product?
Proper sub base: Stone or sand/base to be installed at final grade and compacted.
Reinforcement: 3/8 or 1/2″ fiber rebar with added synthetic fiber at a 4” x 4” grid or wire 5’ x 10’ sheets
Quality concrete: We use 6 bag, 4,000 PSI, air entrained concrete, with low water cement ratio.
Properly placed concrete joints: Saw cut and/or hand tooled to be installed in proper areas. Helps with random cracking.
How thick is the concrete?
It depends on the project. We pour the majority at 4” thick, 5” thick, or 6” thick.
How long will the project take?
Traditionally, flatwork 3 or 4 days, depending on the scope of work and weather. During that time, please stay out of the form work and/or the work area to avoid any injuries to you and/or your pet.
What do I need to do to prepare for your arrival?
Move vehicles or outdoor objects such as patio furniture, etc. out of the way. Allow room for my arrival as well as the crew. If possible, avoid having deliveries during the duration of the project. Keep pets inside and out of the way.
Are you going to tear up my yard?
Most likely there will be some yard damage. Typically, projects require a Bobcat. That means multiple trips back and forth hauling heavy materials. Driveway work, not as likely, on the edges from 6” to 1’. We can provide top dirt or soil as an extra service.
Do you clean up after yourselves?
Yes, we respect your property, sweeping and picking up any loose materials.
Once my concrete is poured, how long should I stay off of it?
Recommended one day after we pour.
When can I drive on my concrete?
We recommend 7 days before vehicle traffic. During early spring and late fall, we recommend 10 – 12 days before vehicle traffic.
What kind of maintenance is necessary with concrete?
We recommend sealing your concrete after job completion and every 2 – 3 years for maximum protection of your investment.
Can I use salt or a deicer in the winter?
No. Never. Salt is the enemy of concrete. It chemically corrodes the surface causing imperfections. Use sand only. We will ensure proper control joints with a saw cut or hand tooled joints in the concrete. We also ensure top grade concrete, 4,000 PSI, to ensure the longevity and strength of the concrete. Our team, G. B. Concrete, LLC, is committed to delivering a professional and authentic, pleasing concrete to your project.
Any questions or concerns regarding your concrete project need to be addressed to the owner, Gerald Bahr, not the crewmen.
